Fines accrue at $0.10 a day per item, with a $10.00 maximum per item. Sundays are fine-free days.

Funds Collected:

Copies are $0.10 each.
Computer printing is $0.10 a page.
Color computer printing is $0.50 a page.
Faxes are $1.00 for the first page, $0.50 for each additional page, no charge for the cover sheet.

*Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult if they are staying in the library for longer than one hour. An adult is classified as a person 18 years and older.

Computer/Internet Policies:

All computer users must sign in. Children under 12 cannot use the Internet unless they are with a parent or have a permission slip on file. Printing is available for $0.10 a page for black and white, and $0.50 a page for color. Complete policies are posted in the computer rooms.

Meeting Room:

The library offers a community meeting room; call the library, 725-6227, for details.

Winter Weather Policy:

When the Jefferson County Board of Education cancels school due to inclement weather, the library will also be closed for the day.

Donation Policy:

The South Jefferson Public Library welcomes donations of books, audiovisual materials, and other items as well as monetary donations. These gifts help improve the library’s resources.

Material Donations

The library reserves the right to accept, decline, discard, or sell any donations.

All materials donated will be evaluated by the staff to determine which materials to add to the collection. Donations must be outright and unconditional.

Acceptable Items:

  • Adult and children’s fiction books
  • Adult and children’s non-fiction books, if information up to date.
  • Compact discs and DVDs as long as they are in their original packaging

Non-Acceptable Items:

  • Text Books of any kind
  • Reader’s Digest condensed books
  • National Geographic magazines
  • Encyclopedias
  • Any item that is outdated, condensed, or damaged in any way.

Items not added will be sold at the library’s annual book sale to acquire funds to purchase new items, transferred to other institutions, discarded or recycled.

The library and/or its staff are not permitted to place a value on donations for tax purposes. A receipt will be given stating how many items donated.

Financial Donations

Monetary contributions to the library are greatly appreciated and welcomed. Donors can earmark their contribution for specific materials, supplies, equipment, or furnishings according to the library’s needs. ​

Other donations

The library director will refer decisions on all equipment, art, benches, or other unusual donations to the Board of Trustees for consideration. Any items donated, which may require maintenance through the years, will be the responsibility of the donor to maintain.
